The meat and potatoes of any Website or print design, photography is the main reason people sit up and pay attention. Good photography is a necessity to engage your audience, convey a message, or provide the content of the design.
The photographic process has evolved tremendously since the early 1800's. What was then an extremely tedious, rare and dangerous trade has become a super easy, saturated and comically simple way of life. While the popularity of Polaroid® and 35mm film photography in the 1970's and 80's skyrocketed to include most average people in the photographic movement, it was nothing compared to the digital photography boom of the past decade. Almost every person now carries a phone with a camera built in at all times, and most carry a dedicated digital camera half the time. You cannot swing a bag of old Kodachrome™ 800 iso without hitting a dozen quote-unquote amateur photographers. While this trend certainly makes life for professional photographers much more difficult, it also clearly highlights the distinction between amateurs and seasoned professionals.

Being an avid nature and animal lover, these shots are just fun. Animals, people and nature alike are all a great joy to work with. Just being out in the wilds or one on one with individuals makes this area of photography a welcome one.
Shooting anything automotive is a passion of mine. It is difficult in the sense vehicles are not organic and tough to find that optimal angle. But to get that one perfect shot makes it all worth it. My photos have been featured in a book, periodical publications, on Websites, and a calendar cover.
Event photography is generally challenging due to the unknown variables. Having little or no control over the conditions can present unique opportunities for timeless shots, or it can prove very difficult to get the right images. This is why many photographers choose (or avoid) this specialty almost exclusively because of that element of surprise that keeps things challenging.
After a freak snow storm that blanketed parts of California from LA to Bakersfield, two of my shots were run in the Mojave Desert News based in California City, CA.
This shot of Chewy proved too cute to pass up, and although he is grown up now he made the elite calendar cut!
A late-day shot taken at the Indianapolis race track showing a trio of the top running Buick Grand Nationals has become kind of a cult classic in some regards. It has shown up online in forums, in publications used in advertisements (without permission), and even was the cover-shot for a 2007 calendar.
The landmark fifth anniversary in a series of photography books, F5:WR was challenging for various reasons. The timing was unavoidable, but the personal feelings toward the book ranged from nostalgia to animosity. Almost cancelled due to scheduling and costs, Randall Comm persevered throughout and brought it together with trademark professionalism. Edited in Adobe Camera Raw®, layed out with InDesign® and created covers in Photoshop®.
The fourth installment in a series of photography books, this one proved to be the most difficult yet. The sheer scope and size of this book proved to challenge the creation process. The final product is worth the monumental effort involved. Edited in Adobe Camera Raw®, layed out with InDesign® and created covers in Photoshop®.
The third installment in a series of photography books. Utilized strictly RAW format images and edited in Adobe Camera Raw®, InDesign® and Photoshop®. Utilized NASA images (royalty-free) for page backgrounds and the book covers.
The next installment in a Harry Potter-esque series of photography books. Utilized strictly RAW format images and edited in Adobe Camera Raw®, Photoshop®, and Blurb.com's proprietary software.
This is truly a landmark event - the first book published by Randall Communications! Created using Photoshop® and Blurb.com's proprietary software.
